I Pedal, she Paddles

Not all cyclists are out to change the world, although that world is changing. Not all paddlers are out to change the world, but this one is.

My Mom sent me an article about a woman who is paddling an outrigger canoe along the eastern US coast from Miami up to Maine. She's drawing attention to the plight of the oceans and the impact of coastal development on the shoreline environment.

I've found her posts to be sympathetic to the same causes that get many cyclists out on their bikes. We're all swimming against the tide of what is popularly considered "economic development", a tide that moves under the gravity of falsely represented energy costs.

While we pedal our bikes to work this week, it's nice to know that others are working alongside us to counter the prevailing tide.

I heard a story on DW-Radio last year about a woman swimming the Danube to attract attention to pollution in the river.
