April Miles

Spent the entire weekend at my younger daughter's soccer tournament. Although I didn't get to spend the wonderful weather on my bike, I did get to spend it outdoors watching some impressive youth soccer.

This tournament is a scaled-down version of the Georgia State Cup for the younger age groups. My daughter's U-11 team slipped into the semi-finals by way of excellent defense (lowest goals allowed, the 4th tie-breaker, tipped the balance), and two goals scored within the last few minutes of the match. In the semi's the team finally met its match and lost a game that wasn't close.

Our club, the coach and parents are very proud of their performance since they were seeded near the bottom of the bracket.

Miles for April 2007: 371.1
Miles for April 2006: 212.0

This raises me to just shy of 300 miles per month this year which is well above my averages over the past 28 years. I expect to drop off some commuting miles now that it is warmer, but I may be able to pick up some after-work miles. Riding the bike has never felt like a burden, but recently, I'm relishing the rides more than ever.

Commute Summary

Round Trip Distance: 11.3
Number of Cyclists seen: 9
In-bound Route: Lullwater/PATH
Out-bound Route: Piedmont Park
Weather: Sunny and warm with slight breeze

Love good footie. I have completed the transformation from a youth coach, parent etc. etc to a full time hooligan. 8>)

Saturday is Ireland/Bolivia and Revs/KC. Two games for the price of one.
Season tickets, including three international games and free parking for $160. Good deal, if I say so myself.

You do have it pretty good to be able to see high level soccer for a good price. I'm still bummed we won't be able to take in a match when we come up in July.

My younger daughter's coach plays with the Atlanta Silverback organization (women's team's keeper) and we get to see a few of their matches. It's a notch above Premier league play, but not the same as the WUSA we enjoyed a few years ago.

I hear rumblings they may start the women's game back up, but it will be tied to cites with MLS franchises. Atlanta's not on that list unfortunately.

Older daughter's State Cup starts in June. Recently, that's about the best soccer I get to watch.
