First Rackmate of the Year
It wasn't until school was out that I had my first rackmate of the year today. I was caught without my camera and decided my phone's camera would have to do.
My rackmate is in the foreground and my bike is in the background. If this were a better photo, you would be able to tell this is another Trek and is much more of a commuter bike than mine. The flat bars, wide seat, regular pedals, and braze-ons in the middle of the fork for the basket all contrast with my road bike.
I'm thinking about getting a commuter bike.
This evening I joined the Flyers again. I'm the only guy out of 30-40 riders with a rack mounted on the bike.
Now, I'm not a very good conformist, but I do feel a little bit of pressure to get the rack off my road bike and put it on a commuter bike. I'm keeping my eyes open for something in a 54cm I might like.
This evening I wasn't feeling my best. Limited sleep and too much work were getting me down. After the ride however, the endorphins were flowing and I couldn't stop smiling. Another +1 for cycling.
Commute Summary
Round Trip Distance: 5.9
Number of Cyclists seen: 13
In-bound Route: Piedmont Park
Out-bound Route: Piedmont Park
Weather: No rain in two weeks now.

I'm always the only one with a rack. I sometimes even put my rack bag on there so I can carry more stuff, and then I stand out even more.
I don't really care, I figure this probably shows I use my bicycle for more than just recreational and training rides, something I'm proud of anyway.
Don't conform. You will be like the kids who want to be different, so they all dress alike.
Apertome, I like your point about showing that you use the bike for more than one purpose. I've always enjoyed telling the group riders that I ride to work and telling the fellow commuters about our Sunday morning group rides.
Midnight Rider, you're point about looking different like everyone else is right on target. I always tell people I'm not a non-conformiest, just a damn poor conformist. Usually I don't notice that I'm different from everyone else even though it can be obvious at times to everyone else. I understand you're on the non-conformist side of the line, right?
