Carry over from Bike to Work Week or Back to the Garden?
Maybe it's the weather. Maybe it's just the time of year, or maybe it's the time of man, but we're getting ourselves back to the garden.
There were a lot of cyclists today. Certainly these are not all commuters, but I've been consistenly counting cyclists regardless of size, shape or persuasion, so my numbers do compare apples to apples. I only recognized 2-3 riders out of the 30 I saw today. We're getting new riders.
We've been talking about "Tipping Point". I don't know if we're there yet, because there are still motorists who get angry and cyclists who sometimes give them reason to be angry, but I think we are approaching that point. The work of all advocates who have ridden before of us has lifted us. We ride with smiles on our faces, and kind words on our lips. Our happiness blunts all anger and fear. Buoyed by the rising tide, we ride through all obstacles, physical and mental, political and personal.
On today's ride, I felt like I was basking in the glow, it feels so good.
We are stardust, we are golden. We just got caught up in some devil's bargain and we've got to get ourselves back to the garden. -- from Joni Mitchell's Woodstock

1 Comments:
There will always be tension between some motorists and some cyclists. However, I do think that the majority of both groups are courteous and accommodate each other.
