Reloading the Sweat Guns

I lost a lot of sweat today. It was humid, so my body decided it needed to sweat more to try to keep cool. Sweat was shooting out of me and getting other people wet. Bugs were hanging onto me thinking I was a salt lick. My glasses crusted over. I turned my bathtub into the Dead Sea after rinsing down.

So this afternoon, I've been craving salty food. I gave in.

  • Yellow Rice = salt
  • Artichoke Hearts = salt
  • Black Olives = salt

I wrapped up some of the paella in a tortilla with cottage cheese (= more salt). All of this was washed down with about 2000 mL of water (less than my shower, but more than I carry on my bike).

Sweat guns will commence firing at 8AM tomorrow morning.

Our glands operate on a weird dew-point system with air moisture here in summer. Something like: temperature Fahrenheit over humidity percentage times hills divide by tree cover equals salty pore spewage. Or just air-moisture times hill-distance equals head-wetness content.

And, we really need an acronym or phrase to describe and account for the phenomenon where one knows one is just absolutely bucketing backward-going head sweat toward your pals and one can do nothing about it and feels pretty bad about it all the same.
Perhaps “sweat-sharers remorse” or “Opulent Out-Pouring of Sweat” (OOPS).

See ya tomorrow in the “dew” zone.

Hey - does your 'crafty coder' pal upload his rides using a GPS gpx file? If so - do you know which GPS he uses? I'd like to start tracking distance, climbing, heart rate, calories etc and was curious what he is using to track his rides and map them.

I've asked Craft Coder to answer here.

I use a Garmin Forerunner 305 for data collection.

I wrote the software to display it myself. You could use mapmyride.com to keep track of your data I believe. I wrote my own because I wanted to be able to automatically calculate cue sheets based on rides which no one else that I found did well. Also, it was just a fun project to work on.

That's great. Are you manually entering the cue sheets into a GUI that you've built, or are you able to import the data in comma delim or tab delim format (aka xls sheet or xml) -- or even from a datasource?

I have no programming skills of my own to speak of, but I love to analyze data and find more intelligent ways to record and distribute it.

Saturday was a beautiful day to ride, even with all the bugs stuck to sweaty shoulders and shins. We chose the mexican restaurant option for reloading the sweat guns, though I think paella may make the shortlist for next weekend.

Our Saturday ride was much shorter - 25ish miles - due to several stops for mechanical issues. (Love the 40 year old bike, but am questioning my sanity.) Flat tire, lots of adjustments, and a slipped chain wedged in frame when I moved the wrong lever for a gear change.

On the salt lick issue, the dogs were very happy to see us when we got back home.
