My Faith in Cyclists
I find fellow cyclists are good company. I've wondered why and offer the following:
- Anyone who appreciates the efficiency of transport offered by the bicycle stimulates my urge to avoid waste.
- Anyone who treats their body well challenges me to take better care of my body.
- Anyone whose self-image depends not on their mode of transportation demonstrates the image I want to project.
- Anyone who can endure the minor sufferings of the cyclist to gain its rewards inspires me to make sacrifices for greater rewards.
- Anyone who engages others respectfully and courteously encourages me to behave respectfully and courteously.
It's nice to be around people that pull you up.

Many (if not most) cyclist's self-image is heavily shaped by their chosen mode of transportation. I'm not necessarily saying that's a bad thing, but let's not kid ourselves.
William, you make a good point. Riding a bike is certainly part of my self-image and I certainly consider that a good thing.
I should probably revise this to read more like "Anyone whose self-worth is independent of their mode of transportation demonstrates the values I want to project."
Thanks for helping me sharpen what I want to say. It's always imperfect, but on the other hand, there's always room for improvement.
Excellent!
