Longest Paved Trail in the US
The last foot of the Silver Comet Trail was poured on Aug. 29 making this 95.5 mile-long trail the longest in the US. On Sept. 27, the PATH Foundation is holding the Grand Opening of the trail.
I'll be riding with a group of cyclists that will cover the entire length of the trail within Georgia, taking us from just outside of Atlanta all the way to the border with Alabama. From there, the trail continues for another 35 miles to Anniston, AL. The celebration will occur at the state border.
The group ride leaves the Mavell Road access point at 7:30 AM on Saturday, June 27 and will be meeting riders from Alabama at the border with Georgia. Further details are posted in this PDF.

Hey Jett:
What's the full rundown on the ride out to Alabama on the 27th?
Is there a car pool (several?) to the start and finish? If logistics are feasible, I might be up for it.
Thanks,
Barry
Ooh! Thanks for the scoop. I remember seeing something about this a few weeks ago, but had completely forgotten to follow up.
I'm the only one up for the 61.5 mile ride, but festivities at the state line should be enough to convince my family to meet me there.
I had been an invited rider -- since my wife works for PATH, I'll be sporting a special PATH jersey -- but recently learned that this ride is open to the public.
I've updated the post with a link to the details on the PATH web site. Note there is limited shuttle availability.
We may be able to persuade a few riders to make a return trip on the SCT. Since we'll be headed out at a slow pace (averaging about 10MPH overall), we should have enough energy left to make 16-18MPH on the return trip and get back before dark. I'll probably cross-post on auroracycling.
Jett, I'll be there and I plan to make the out and back ride.
Matt and I are planning to meet you along the trail- we are going to head out from the Paulding point to do the out and back from there!
Looking forward to it!
