Family Riding

Our Kids Ride has sparked some interest in slower-paced group rides.

I know our family would like to spend more time on bikes, and exploring our city with a few other families would be fun.

Heading toward Stone Mountain is a favorite. There are also a few slower-paced rides scheduled over the next few months.

  • Intown Touring Club is sponsoring an African-American History Ride on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 10AM.
  • Tuesday March 11 is a good day to play hooky and ride to the capitol with hundreds of other cyclists (and get a free lunch). I'll be leading a ride to the start of Decatur's group.
  • Sunday April 20, at 1PM, the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign will be leading us around the proposed Beltline and also hit some of the trails under construction.
  • The Tour de Georgia Circuit Race on Sunday April 27 is better appreciated from the saddle of a bike. One family I know rode the course backwards before the start of the race and while the streets were closed to traffic.
  • A solemn Ride of Silence rides in remembrance of cyclists who have fallen on Wednesday, May 21 at 6PM. This is after Bike to Work Week and during National Bicycle Month.

Those sound like some fun rides ... great job getting kids into it. These kinds of rides could also be great for adults who don't consider themselves cyclists or who are very casual cyclists.

One thing I love about cycling is how it helps me reconnect with my childhood ... so kudos for giving those kids some riding with which they can later reconnect, or better yet, never stop.

Right you are, Michael.

As mentioned elsewhere, Rhonda came up with the idea. I just followed from the front.

Thanks to one of our other riders, Tom, we have some better pictures.
